Everyone who recognizes it will say something about the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Suffice it to say, neither we nor you will be able to ride this across buildings and through the air and over a helicopter or whatever. But it’s a cute bit of trivia.
Anyway, 105,784 miles is pretty typical for a BMW that someone loved. We serviced this bike for that someone, who later sold it to another customer of ours, who later sold it to us because he loved his other motorcycle more. We understand that. We like his other motorcycle too, but if we needed to ride to California, we’d probably choose this one.
Recent work: We got rid of the handlebar risers and replaced all the brake hoses. We also covered up the wiring loom, which you should not be surprised to hear had rotted away, because BMW used some new soy-based plastic or something and it all disintegrated. The copper wire and its color insulation is all fine, but the coating around that disintegrated. It’s a cosmetic thing, sort of like the failed German chrome on the rims. They all do that, and we’re not being coy. BMW (and their supplier) apparently had no idea how to do chrome. Strict environmental regulations perhaps?
Meanwhile, yes, the ABS does work (front and rear), and it starts easily (fuel injection) and rides nicely. The gearing is quite tall, and while there is no tachometer, we’d wager it’s turning less than half of the redline while cruising at 85 mph. (Or whatever the legal top speed is near the shop, in case anyone’s asking.) Sadly, the heated grips are not warming up for us. And we might have an enormous ugly windscreen for it somewhere. We took it off because it looked awful and we’re fussy. (But not fussy enough to try to re-cover the saddlebags.)
Seat is a Corbin. and the backrest can be removed or repositioned for the rider. Huzzah No leaks that we’ve spotted.
New since October 2025: air filter, brake hoses and fluid, MotoBatt battery, clutch fluid.
Most recent full service performed by us in late 2020, 1,300 miles ago: tires (2020 date codes), BMW rear brake rotor and EBC rear pads, engine oil and filter, gearbox and final drive oils, front wheel bearings
